Money editor Anne Howland has been laid off effective immediately, while travel and lifestyle editor Laurel Sherrer has elected a buyout package and will be leaving the newspaper in two weeks.
The newspaper also cut a full-time proofreader, a part-time photographer and a part-time proofreader from its ranks.
The Ottawa Sun has laid off and bought out more than 20 full- and part-time workers since last June.
The union stated that the latest round of layoffs is "part of Sun Media's continuing push to consolidate and centralize news and page production in other cities while cutting local staff, local content and local contact."
"We always lament the loss of our colleagues and the skills, experience and professionalism they bring to the newspaper, and we believe paper cuts hurt readers," said the chair of the newspaper's bargaining committee Rob Ludlow.
The bargaining committee is now working towards a first contract for the newspaper's editorial employees.
